MLA checkmated

A powerful legislator of the BJP has suffered a setback after the election of a party man as district unit president. The law-maker was against this person belonging to his assembly constituency. To prevent him from being elected, the legislator spared no effort and spoke to a few senior leaders in Bhopal as well as in Delhi about his intentions.

To foil his rival’s attempts to become the district unit president, the legislator even reached a compromise with those who he was not on talking terms with. The legislator came up with a few new names for the post and held meetings with some leaders in the past one week. 

The MLA drummed up the backing of some leaders, but it came to naught, as the party’s state unit president got his supporter elected as head of the unit of that particular district. There are reports that although the legislator and the district unit president come from the same area, they are opposed to each other. Ergo, there may be a fierce fight between them in the coming days.

Bogged down

Problems are increasing for a low-profile politician holding an important position in the government. In the past one year, he was involved in three controversies. He got rid of those wrangles which tarnished his image in the party. Soon after he was associated with the government, his name cropped up in a case.

Because of this dispute, the leader, who had already gone through a lot of difficulties, incurred a bad name. In another case, the names of a few leaders of the area he hails from had been connected to a dispute that the central leadership came to know of. The central agencies took feedback on the case. The third case may trouble one of his relatives on whom notices may be served. If this happens, the leader’s name may be in the headlines again. So, he is disturbed fearing lest the issue should ruin his political career.

Lunch politics

A lavish lunch hosted by a Congress leader has hogged the limelight. Most of the senior leaders of the party took part in the lunch where many journalists were also present. Nevertheless, the lunch caught more public attention for the presence of a union minister at the venue than its sumptuousness. The central minister reached the residence of the Congress leader to give an invitation card of his son’s wedding at a time when the lunch was to begin, and its host was to address a press conference.

The arrival of the union minister shocked all the Congress leaders who began to whisper among themselves. So, the central minister had to say it aloud that he came to give the invitation card of his son’s wedding. Another reason, for which the lunch occasioned a lot of debates, was that a former chief minister who, despite being present in the state capital, kept away from the dejeuner. The Congress leaders are busy finding the reasons for his absence from the get-together.     

Unbridled son

After a politician has become a minister for the first time, his son has drawn the public’s attention – though for different reasons. After the politician became a minister, his son’s terror in the area grew. Although the minister is considered a gentleman, the residents in the area are scared of his son. Even the minister himself is afraid of his son and avoids enraging him. It is the minister’s son who takes all the decisions related to the area. The party workers are keeping mum because of his fear, but resentment is brewing among them. As his influence is growing, he is developing bad habits, which is discussed in the minister’s constituency. Because of his son’s bad habits, the minister may be in trouble any day.

On foreign trip

The BJP is conducting organisational elections, but a former minister of the party is on a trip abroad.  He is enjoying the foreign jaunt with his family and uploading photographs on Facebook with long captions. He is away from tensions that the party’s organisational polls might have caused to him. The politician, most of the time seen in Kurta-Pyjama in the state, is wearing modern attires, because he understands the necessity of shunning Kurta-Pyjama in a foreign country. On the other hand, when he returns to India, may again pick up his shunned Kurta-Pyjama. The politician seems to have understood the true meaning of the maxim – when in Rome do as Romans do.

Enigmatic Congress

The Congress Party is an enigma where the right hand does not know what the left is doing. Each leader is ready to pull up the other. A senior leader is unhappy with the appointment of in-charges by the party’s state unit chief. The senior leader is particularly angry with the appointment of an in-charge in his native place. At a recent meeting in the party headquarters, the senior leader pulled up the party man saying it was difficult for narrow shoulders to carry a big burden, so the appointment of in-charges should be stopped. The remark was made in the presence of a large number of Congress office-bearers from Delhi and other places. The senior leader’s remark sparked chuckles among those who were present.
