Mumbai – A lion cub has been born after 14 years in Borivali’s Sanjay Gandhi National Park. A lioness named Mansi gave birth to a lion cub on Thursday night.
The lion-lion pair named Manas and Mansi, brought to Borivali National Park two years ago from Sasan Gir forest in Gujarat, has become a center of attraction for tourists.
This lion-lioness pair was brought to the national park in 2022. However, this couple could not live together. After this Mansi fell ill. After treatment and recovery, the park team tried to reunite Manas-Manasi and this effort was successful. In 2024 it was revealed that Mansi was pregnant. Finally on Thursday good news came that the lioness has given birth to a lion cub. Park officials said that at present the lioness and the lion cub are under the care of veterinarians and both are in good health.
Earlier, in 2009, a pair of lions named Ravindra-Shobha were brought to the national park from Sasan Gir. Shobha died a few years ago. Then in 2021, lions named Ravindra and Gopa died. Ultimately in 2022, the lioness named Jepsa died. After this the Manas-Manasi couple was brought to the National Park.
