Mahakumbh 2025: Maha Kumbh Mela has started in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. There is a gathering of devotees. The amazing splendor of this legendary ancient event is spread on the sacred banks of the Sangam. A huge crowd will gather there on the upcoming major Sanna Tithi. Government figures estimate that this time around 45 crore people will participate in the Mahakumbh. In this wonderful coincidence happening after 144 years, everyone wants to be a part of this event and purify themselves by taking a bath in the waters of Triveni.
However, it is not possible for everyone to reach there and there are a large number of people who would not be able to reach the holy ghat even if they wanted to. If you are also among these people then there is no need to be disappointed at all. If you also have a desire to take a dip in Mahakumbh and it is not being fulfilled, then there is a provision for this in the scriptures. There are many mantras in the Puranas and Shastras for the praise and invocation of River Ganga, by chanting and reciting which every place becomes Ganga Tirtha and every water becomes Ganga water.
Mother Ganga herself has promised that whenever I am invoked for any auspicious work, I will be needed for the welfare of everyone. In such a situation, you will not be deprived of the divine benefits of bathing in Ganga on the special date of Amrit Snan. Just chant these mantras and you can avail the benefits of Ganga bath while sitting at home.
Mantra to invoke rivers
River Ganga is sacred but its tributaries Yamuna and Saraswati are also highly glorified. Apart from this, Godavari, Kaveri, Indus and Narmada are also said to be the incarnation of Ganga at their respective places. Sangam is the confluence of Ganga-Yamuna and Saraswati in the pilgrimage area. This is also the glory of Tirtharaj Prayag. Also, like the Ganga, all these rivers originated from the Kamandal of Lord Brahma at different times and were called Sapta Dhara.
The meditation mantra of all these rivers is very effective which transforms the bathing water into Ganga and Triveni. Therefore, chant this mantra before taking bath. With this mantra, the courtyard of your own house will become a pilgrimage site like the Kumbh site.
Ganga, Yamune, Godavari, Saraswati.
Narmade Sindhu Kaveri Jaldesmin Sannidhi Kuru.
pray to mother ganga
Similarly, Ganga Shloka taken from the origin of Ganga is also very sacred. This shloka mantra describes the purity of Mother Ganga and prays to her for freedom from sins. In this verse it is said that the water of Ganga is beautiful which has emerged from the feet of Murari i.e. Lord Vishnu and Tripurari i.e. Lord Shiva has worn it on his head.
Ganga waari manohari muraricharanchyutam.
In Tripurarishirchari Papahari Punatu.
Who is the destroyer of all sins. Oh Mother Ganga, remove my sins too. By chanting this mantra and taking bath, Mother Ganga will meet the water source near Tamari and provide you coolness.
Even people away from Ganga can take bath
In a verse describing the glory of river Ganga, it is said that if someone remembers Gangaji even from a distance of a hundred yojanas, all his sins are washed away and he ultimately goes to Vishnu Loka.
Through this verse it has been told that Mother Ganga is so kind that her sons and devotees reach out to her as soon as they remember her.
Ganga Gangeti Yo Bruyat, Shatairpi of Yojana.
Muchyate all sins, Gachchati with Vishnuloke.
If you are not able to go to the banks of Ganga, then Mother Ganga comes to Tamari and frees you from sins and provides coolness. This shloka mantra should be chanted while taking bath.
Ganga river is the path of salvation
Seeing river Ganga is the path to salvation. Taking bath is like breaking all karmic bonds. By merely remembering Mother Ganga, man becomes the refuge of many virtues.
Ganga Tav Darshanat Mukti
If the shortest and most important mantra of Mother Ganga is chanted while bathing, then the water in your water vessel becomes Ganga water and bathing in it gives the same results as bathing in Kumbh. The mind should be pure and the feelings should be devotional.
Similarly, Yamuna river is also a mythological river and bathing in it also has great importance. Yamuna River is the daughter of Sun God and witness to the activities of Lord Krishna. Many ancient temples are established on the banks of this river. The water of this river is also considered as sacred as the Ganga because Lord Krishna himself had bathed with this water. Therefore this river is invoked even while taking bath. His mantra is something like this.
O Kalindi Yamune, Jai Shri Krishna Priyadakure.
Vrajvasini Vishvajani Punyatoye Namodstute.
Oh Kalindi Yamuna river, victory to you! You are the beloved of Lord Krishna, you reside in Vrajbhoomi (Mathura-Vrindavan). The whole world respects and honors you. With your holy water the creatures of the world become pure and free from sins. I salute you, I salute you. Please do me a favor by giving me darshan.
When you go to take bath, remember Prayag, the king of pilgrimages, and his glory. Tirtharaja Prayag is the king of all the pilgrimages and also follows the sanctity of Triveni Devi, the goddess of the Sangam area. This will create the aura of Tirtharaj Prayag in your house and you will get the same benefits as taking a bath in Prayag. Before performing Havan-Yagya etc. in the house, the priest also uses this mantra to make the atmosphere of the house spiritual.
Triveni Sangame Devi is worshiped at Sangameshwaram.
Be sure to seek the blessings of Guru while bathing.
O Goddess who resides in Triveni Sangam! You are worshiped by Sangameshwar. Please provide us your blessings while taking bath. Please destroy our sins and make us pure and holy. This mantra invokes Goddess Triveni Sangam. This mantra is a symbol of devotion, faith and self-purification.
