When, a LinkedIn user, complained that being vegetarian in India felt like a ‘curse’ due to these extra fees, the controversy started. He went on to attack Zomato for portraying vegetarian food as a ‘luxury tax’ instead of a typical choice for dining.

Deepinder Goyal, the CEO of Zomato, responded to the post in response to the criticism and promised that the additional cost would be eliminated. In order to prevent a repeat of this incident, he also pledged to resolve the matter within the team, stressing that the charge would be removed immediately.

On his X account, Goyal announced that the Chief of Staff will be instrumental in determining Zomato’s future, working on significant projects such as Feeding India, District, Blinkit, and Hyperpure. Although the role’s financial component might seem out of the ordinary.

Goyal emphasised that the payment is not intended to save the business money. He wrote, ‘We will donate 50 lacs, which is equal to a Chief of Staff salary, to a charity of your choosing.’
