15 theme based tourism circuits are being developed across the country under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme by the Union Tourism Ministry. It includes North East Circuit, Buddhist Circuit, Himalayan Circuit, Coastal Circuit, Krishna Circuit, Desert Circuit, Tribal Circuit, Eco Circuit, Wildlife Circuit, Rural Circuit, Spiritual Circuit, Ramayana Circuit, Heritage Circuit, Tirthankara Circuit and Sufi Circuit.
What is the complete scheme of Krishna Circuit?
The Krishna Circuit, being developed under the Swadesh Darshan scheme, includes religious places in five states. Which is mostly associated with Shri Krishna. This circuit extends to Gujarat, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Odisha. 12 places in these five states are part of this circuit. These include Dwarka in Gujarat, Nathdwara, Sikar and Jaipur in Rajasthan, Kurukshetra in Haryana, Mathura, Vrindavan, Gokul, Barsana, Nandgaon and Govardhan in Uttar Pradesh and Puri in Odisha.
It will connect religious places of five states
1. Uttar Pradesh: Mathura, birthplace of Lord Krishna

In the Krishna Circuit, Mathura, the birthplace of Lord Krishna, will be connected to Dwarka. Mathura is situated on the banks of Yamuna River in Uttar Pradesh. It is important not only for Hindus but also for followers of Buddhism and Jainism. At present Mathura is a major center of religious and historical importance.
Mathura is famous as the birthplace of Lord Krishna. It is believed that Lord Krishna rested here after killing Kansa. Lord Krishna created a lot of greenery in Vrindavan. Nandgaon was established by Shri Krishna’s foster father Nandarai on a beautiful mountain named Nandishwar near Barsana. Govardhan Mountain is located in Mathura district itself, which was raised by Krishna on his index finger to save the people of Vraj from the wrath of Indra. Many development works have been done in Mathura.
2. Rajasthan: Child form is worshiped in Shrinathdwara.
Shrinathji, the idol of Lord Krishna located in Nathdwara in Rajsamand district of Mewar region of Rajasthan, is famous throughout the country and the world. Shrinathji resides in a mansion in Nathdwara. It was constructed by the then Maharana Raj Singh of Mewar. Here Shrinathji is worshiped in child form eight times a day.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the tourism facilities developed in Nathdwara under Krishna Circuit under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme on 2 October 2023. An interpretation center has been developed here, which describes the journey of Shrinathji from Govardhan to Nathdwara. It uses high quality graphics and visual media.
3.Haryana: Mahabharata took place in Kurukshetra
Kurukshetra in Haryana is known for the Mahabharata war between the Kauravas and the Pandavas. It was here that Lord Krishna gave the knowledge of Geeta to Arjun. Kurukshetra is about 170 km from Delhi. Brahmasarovar situated here has religious and mythological importance.
4. Odisha: The Vaikuntha of the Earth is the Shri Jagannath Temple of Puri.
The temple of Lord Shri Jagannath in Puri, Odisha is one of the four famous temples of Hindu religion. According to mythological belief, the world famous Jagannath temple is the Vaikuntha of the earth. The idol of Shri Jagannath installed here contains Brahma Dravya. It is considered to be the heart of Lord Krishna. It is said that Lord Krishna himself is present in this temple. It is also believed that by having darshan of Lord Jagannath in Puri, all the sins of a person are washed away and all his wishes are fulfilled.

5. Gujarat: Dwarka is the birthplace of Shri Krishna
Dwarka in Gujarat is actually one of the oldest cities. It is believed that Shri Krishna himself left Mathura and settled here and this is his place of work. It was established as a pilgrimage site by Adi Shankaracharya. And it is one of the four holy cities and seven sacred cities of the Hindus. The main deity of the Devanagari Dwarka temple is Lord Krishna. He is worshiped as Dwarkadhish. It is believed that by visiting Dwarka temple the sins of many births are washed away.
