A 17-year-old high school basketball player Noah Scurry, from Samuel Fels High School, was fatally shot while on his way to school with his mother. According to NBC10 Philadelphia report, the incident occurred around 7:15 AM near Tacony Creek Park. Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots, followed by the screams of Scurry’s mother.
The report further states that, Police on Tuesday were searching for a white-coloured Jeep Grand Cherokee that has a black front license plate holder, a shattered sunroof and distinctive stickers on the windshield. On Wednesday, police said the Jeep was possibly found in Northeast Philadelphia, but gave no further details.
Netizens are stating that the young player was shot dead 24 hours after he released a rap video with joker mask on his face.
Monique Braxton, a spokesperson for the School District of Philadelphia, said “The principal, coach, players, classmates, peers, are distraug. This is unimaginable for them. The student was getting in the car with his mom this morning in the back of his home, and he was shot and killed. This student was about to graduate. He probably would’ve had offers to play basketball at colleges across the country. And you know, it’s just a life senselessly cut short.”
According to the report Fels Principal Melissa Rasper in a letter to the school community wrote, “Ours is a tight-knit community, and I know that this is difficult news to receive even when it doesn’t occur on school property. Death is rarely something that is easy to accept, especially when it involves a young person, a classmate and particularly during these times as our city grapples with heightened gun violence.”
“This is a difficult time, but I know our community will be there to support one another as we remember a beloved student and classmate,”
