Delhi: The city has been experiencing a dense layer of fog on the morning of January 17, 2025, resulting in zero visibility. As a result, the weather department issued an Orange alert for dense fog. The Indian Railways reported that 140 flights were affected by the conditions, leading to numerous delays and the cancellation of 10 flights on that day.

A cold wave has enveloped the national capital, significantly impacting the railway and airport networks. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts minimum temperatures around 8 degrees Celsius and maximum temperatures around 18 degrees Celsius.

Numerous flight and trains affected

Numerous flights at IGI Airport are currently delayed due to thick fog, which has also affected train services. 27 trains departing from various railway stations in Delhi are experiencing delays. Authorities recommend that travelers utilise helplines and mobile applications for up-to-date information on train schedules.

On Thursday, January 17, 2025, residents of the city experienced light rainfall. According to Indian Railways, seven flights were canceled and 184 flights delayed. Meanwhile, 26 trains have also faced delays on the same day.

Weather forecast for January 18

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city is set to experience cloudy skies on January 18, 2025. The minimum and maximum temperatures is expected to range between 8 degrees Celsius and 19 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the wind is expected to blow steadily from the West at 13 km/h. The humidity is expected to be around 67 per cent.
