Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Thursday held its first ward-level meeting for public awareness and coordination regarding the removal of unauthorized hoardings, banners and posters.
The meeting comes after the Bombay High Court order on actions against unauthorized hoardings, banners and posters in the city.
The meeting was held at the ‘L’ ward office in Kurla and was attended by local residents, senior police inspector, senior inspector (Permits), social workers and civic staff.
“The meeting was held following the Bombay HC order of December 19, 2024 and as per the instructions received from the Government of Maharashtra, directing to take action against unauthorized posters, banners, hoardings etc”.
”Accordingly, the first ward-level meeting was held in Kurla on Thursday to coordinate unauthorized hoardings removal proceedings. BMC has also started organizing meetings at the departmental levels to take action against illegal hoardings and posters in the city,” the statement released by the corporation on Thursday said.
The HC had expressed displeasure over illegal hoardings and banners in Mumbai, noting that civic officials have not taken concrete measures despite ‘explicit and clear’ instructions. The court had noted that political parties seemingly ‘lack respect’ for the orders issued by it.
