Former England cricketers Nasser Hussain and Michael Atherton have selected the next generation of ‘Fab Four’ batsmen, which includes India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal and England’s Harry Brook. Former captain Michael Vaughan has included Pakistan’s rising star Sam Ayub in his list, while Atherton has selected left-handed batsman Kamindu Mendis and all-rounder Rachin Ravindra.
The term ‘Fab Four’ was coined by former New Zealand player Martin Crowe in the early 2010s, when he selected four key players who he believed would rule world cricket over the next few years. He placed India’s Virat Kohli, England’s Joe Root, New Zealand’s Kane Williamson, and Australia’s Steve Smith in this category. Now that all these players are in the final stages of their careers, the discussion on the next generation ‘Fab Four’ has intensified.
Speaking on Sky Sports Cricket Podcast, Hussain selected Jaiswal and Brook, saying, “Sam Ayub has got an injury right now, and it is not sure whether he will be fit for the Champions Trophy or not, but he is the top batsman for Pakistan in all formats. “Can be a dynamic player up the order.”
He also named Australia’s Travis Head as his final selection, but Atherton said the 31-year-old Head did not fit into the list due to his age. Atherton selected Jaiswal and Brook as the new ‘Fab Four’ along with Kamindu Mendis and Rachin Ravindra.
