Kangana Ranaut’s film ‘Emergency’ is scheduled to release on January 17, but in the meantime, Sikh organization Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has demanded a ban on the film. SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami has written a letter to the Punjab Government complaining in this regard. Kangana Ranaut, who is the lead actress of this film, is also an MP from Mandi Lok Sabha seat of Himachal Pradesh.
Dhami sent a letter to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday saying that Kangana Ranaut’s film ‘Emergency’ is going to be released on January 17, 2025 in various theaters of Punjab and tickets have also been booked for it. He informed that SGPC had already written a letter to the Chief Secretary of Punjab Government through a resolution on 28 September 2024 demanding a ban on this film.
He clearly said that the film ‘Emergency’ will not be allowed to be screened in Punjab, as it is made in a political manner with the aim of defaming Sikhs. Dhami said that a demand was made to the state government to ban the release of the film, but no action has been taken so far. If the film releases on January 17, 2025, it will cause outrage and anger in the Sikh community.
Dhami said the film promotes an anti-Sikh agenda by downplaying the incidents of the 1984 attacks on Sikh holy shrines, such as the Sachkhand Sri Golden Temple and Sri Akal Takht Sahib, as well as the Sikh genocide. Additionally, the film also depicts Sikh national martyr Sant Jarnail Singh Khalsa Bhindranwale. He reiterated that SGPC demands to immediately stop Kangana Ranaut’s film ‘Emergency’ from being released in Punjab, otherwise it will be forced to strongly oppose it at the state level.
