Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A man has sought divorce from his wife saying that she doesn’t wear makeup and keeps on visiting places of pilgrimage. The man is also unhappy that she is not interested in looking attractive at all and also plans to go to Prayagraj Mahakumbh to take a holy dip in Sangam.

Bhopal-based man is a contractor whereas his wife, a native of another city is a homemaker.

The man has approached Bhopal District Family Court seeking judicial separation from his wife under Section 13(A) of the Hindu Marriage Act. The couple in their late 40s got married 27 years back. Their marriage was an arranged one. Now, they have two children. Their 23-year-old daughter got married recently and their 20-year-old son is studying.

In his divorce plea, the man has claimed that he has tried hard to motivate her to become a ‘modern woman’ but to no avail. In fact, the man also bought a car for her and enrolled her in a driving school. Despite objections, she doesn’t wear make-up. She just has a tilak on her forehead and ear Rudraksh mala in her neck. She keeps on visiting places of pilgrimage like Mathura, Vrindavan and Dwarika along with a group of women. The man said he is fed up with her attitude and has finally filed for divorce in the court.

According to Shail Awasthi, a counsellor at the Family Court, who is handling the case, the woman says whatever it may be she is not ready to wear make-up and obey her hubby. The woman is ready to be divorced but doesn’t want to change her lifestyle.

“She in fact said “Does he want me to wear make-up like a ‘call girl’?” the counsellor said, adding that their children are in support of their father. “Generally, most of the husbands complain that their wives waste money on make-ups and jewellry. This is a very unique and interesting case,” Awasthi said, adding that “I have completed one counselling session of the couple and have recommended another session.”
