JOHANNESBURG: It has been reported that 100 of the 600 miners who descended into a mine to extract what remains of gold from South Africa’s defunct gold line have died of hunger and thirst. Another 500 miners are still trapped there. Some of the remaining miners came out and gave this information on their mobile phones. Underground bodies of dead miners were found wrapped in plastic. This was said by “Mining Affected Communities United in Action Group” on Friday. But that information has been leaked recently.

The leader of that group, Sabelo Mnguni, further said that 18 bodies have been recovered so far. Of these, 9 have been removed by the society itself. The rest of the government employees have gone out. While the remaining 26 people were evacuated on Monday.

Police spokesman Brigadier Sebana Mokgwabon told reporters that many bodies had been recovered, many people had been rescued and rescue operations were ongoing.

This police officer said, “Actually the official gold mining companies can dig for legal gold but they close the mines because the gold in the veins is almost gone.” After placing the stones horizontally, these illegal miners move the big stones and enter the mine by tying ropes and taking the generator with them. But are often unable to go out. A greedy person dies of hunger and thirst due to lack of water. This is a sad thing. Police warns many times. But don’t understand. The police cut their ropes and come up and block the exit and order them to surrender, saying, if you surrender we will save you, but instead of cooperating they go further away. Ultimately dies. This is very sad. They carry water, food etc. But if he misses it, he gets it by contacting his assistants outside on mobile.”

Unfortunately, seeing the police coming from a distance, the helpers ran away. The police had no suspicion at first. Meanwhile, many people would have died in three days without water. Police believe that some of them may have suffered de-hydration. In short, this happens often in many places which is very sad. Still the police spokesperson said.
