According to the Indian Meteorological Department IMD, a western disturbance is active over Punjab and adjoining Pakistan. While the cyclonic circulation is situated over southwest Rajasthan.
Due to its effect, there may be heavy rain in the plains and hilly areas. Rain has been warned throughout the day in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and East Rajasthan. There will be rain and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Uttarakhand. There is a possibility of rain in Himachal Pradesh and Western Rajasthan on January 17. A new Western Disturbance will become active from February 18 which will affect the Western Himalayan region. Due to this, rain warning has been issued in Nicobar Islands, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala till January 19.
Fog will rule here
Apart from this, alert of dense fog has been issued in UP, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh. Till January 18, there will be extreme cold in UP, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

The minimum temperature in Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh is minus. During the next 4 days, minimum temperatures over northwest India may increase by 2-4 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures over central India may increase by 2 degrees Celsius. Temperature will remain stable in eastern and western India.
