Central Government Employees Allowed To Travel In Tejas, Vande Bharat & Humsafar Express Under LTC: DoPT | FPJ
New Delhi: The Central Government employees will now be able to travel in Tejas, Vande Bharat and Humsafar Express trains under Leave Travel Concession (LTC), according to an official order.
The decision came after receiving an approval from the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).
In fact, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) received numerous inquiries and references from various offices and individuals regarding the inclusion of different premium trains under the LTC scheme.
“The matter has been examined by this department in consultation with the Department of Expenditure and it has been decided that apart from existing Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto trains, travel by Tejas Express, Vande Bharat Express & Humsafar Express under LTC as per the entitlement of the government employees has now been allowed,” the official statement said.
What is LTC & who enjoys the scheme?
As per Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), LTC is “Leave Travel Concession (LTC) scheme is a concessional travel facility for the Government employees to visit their Home Town or to visit any place in India during a block of four years. In terms of provisions of the Scheme, the Government employees have the option either to avail Home town LTC twice in a block of two years each or to visit home town once in a period of two years and to visit any place in India in another block of two years.”
To be eligible for LCT, one has to be compliant with various factors including:

Eligibility: Available specifically to Central Government employees, as per their entitlement under service rules.
Coverage: Along with travel expenses of employees, the scheme covers their eligible family members’.
Types of Journeys: It is applicable for journeys to the employee’s hometown (Hometown LTC) or to any other place in the country.

Earlier, government employees had access to trains like Rajdhani, Shatabdi, and Duronto trains.

As per the 7th Central Pay Commission, the travel entitlement for Central Government employees under LTC in premium trains is categorized based on three Pay Levels in the Pay Matrix.
The categories are as follows:
Level 12 and above: Employees in Pay Level 12 and above can travel in Executive Class for Shatabdi or similar trains and AC First Class for Rajdhani or similar trains.
Level 6 to 11: Employees in Pay Levels 6 to 11 are eligible for Chair Car in Shatabdi or similar trains and AC Second Class in Rajdhani or similar trains.
Level 5 and below: Employees in Pay Level 5 and below can avail Chair Car for Shatabdi or similar trains and AC Third Class for Rajdhani or similar trains.
