Strict action of the Electricity Department is going on against electricity theft in Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh. This area is involved in maximum cases of electricity theft. So far, more than 1,400 FIRs have been registered under Section 135. These cases include Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Ziaur Rehman Burke, 16 mosques, two madrassas and many other individuals and institutions.

So far, a fine of Rs 11 crore has been imposed in cases of electricity theft, out of which Rs 20 lakh has been recovered.

SP MP accused of electricity theft

In December, the Electricity Department conducted a special checking campaign in the area of ​​SP MP Ziaur Rehman Burke.

  • Under this campaign, raids were conducted in areas like Khaggu Sarai, Raisatti, Deepa Sarai, Hindu Pura Kheda.
  • SP MP’s house was also raided, where a case was registered after evidence of electricity theft was found.
  • The MP was fined Rs 1.91 crore and electricity to his house was also disconnected.

Apart from this, a case was also registered against the MP’s father. Electricity department employees had accused him of bullying.

Action on mosques and madrassas also

16 mosques and 2 madrassas were also found involved in electricity theft cases.

  • Due to illegal electricity connections, a case was registered against them under section 135.
  • Action is being taken regarding the amount of fine.

Electricity department’s campaign across the district

Keeping a close watch on the cases of electricity theft in Sambhal district, the department started a large-scale raid operation.

  • Hundreds of illegal electricity connections have been caught so far.
  • The department has intensified the work of identifying and penalizing illegal connections across the district.

Action taken so far and recovery

Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) has imposed a fine of Rs 11 crore on the district.

  • Out of this, Rs 20 lakh has been recovered so far.
  • The department has announced to take strict action against electricity theft.
