Washington: America’s newly elected President Donald Trump has started the rush of work even before taking the oath of office. In a major announcement after threats to impose tariffs on Mexico and Canada, a new department in the US government, the External Revenue Service, will launch on January 20. This new department will be tasked with collecting timely revenues and tariffs from foreign countries. Under this section, customs duties, tariffs and other revenues will be collected from foreign sources, Trump said on his platform Truth Social.

A CNN report said that this department is being created to increase pressure on countries like China, Canada and Mexico. This department will help address issues such as trade imbalance, migration and drug trafficking. Trump also intends to increase taxes on other countries including China. It is believed that Trump will soon announce increase in tariffs on imports from other countries.

Trump said on Tuesday that due to the weak trade agreement, the world’s wealth has increased in the American economy while our taxes have increased. Now the time has come to change this. Those who make money from us now need to start paying their fair share. Of course, establishing this new agency would require Congressional approval. But now there is no obstacle for Trump in getting this approval because Republicans have majority in both the houses of Congress and Senate.

Trump had made it clear during the presidential election campaign itself that if he became the President, there would be massive changes in the country. To make these changes, Trump formed a special team which included Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy. Elon Musk campaigned for President Trump, saying he would help cut the US federal budget by two trillion dollars. Trump had said during the election campaign that the current government is full of bureaucracy. But if I become president, I will change it fundamentally. The first step in this was the establishment of the Department of Government Efficiency – DOGE. Musk and Ramaswamy have been entrusted with the task of making the bureaucracy effective.
