The Election Commission has ordered to register a case against Delhi BJP leader and party candidate from New Delhi seat Pravesh Verma for violation of the Model Code of Conduct. The election officer has written a letter to the SHO in this regard, instructing him to register an FIR and submit the investigation report.

It is alleged that Pravesh Verma distributed shoes to the voters of New Delhi Assembly constituency on Wednesday morning before filing nomination. It was told that this distribution took place in the religious complex of Valmiki Temple. Complainant Advocate Dr. Rajneesh Bhaskar had sent the video and information of this incident to the Election Commission.

Main points of complaint

  • The complaint said that Pravesh Verma distributed shoes to women and made them wear them.
  • It is alleged that this incident took place at Valmiki Temple near Mandir Marg Police Station.
  • Two videos were also attached with the complaint, which were sent by the complainant to the election officer and SHO.

Election Commission action

The election officer said that giving gift or offer to any person is considered a corrupt practice under Section 123 (1)(A) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. In such a situation, the SHO has been instructed to investigate the matter immediately and appropriate action should be taken.

There were allegations in the past also

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had earlier also accused Parvesh Verma of distributing money, bedsheets and spectacles to voters. Besides, a complaint was also made against organizing employment fair. AAP had demanded action from the Election Commission in these cases also.

Before filing nomination, Pravesh Verma along with his wife offered prayers at Gauri Shankar Temple in Chandni Chowk. After this he marched from his residence in Windsor Place to Jamnagar House.

This case reflects the steps taken to ensure fairness and transparency in the election process. Further action will be decided after the results of the investigation are known.
