Mumbai: A shocking case of impersonation and fraud has surfaced in the MIDC area of Mumbai, where two individuals allegedly posed as ICICI Bank officials and conducted fake recruitment drives.

Following a complaint from the bank manager, MIDC Police have registered a case against the accused and launched a manhunt to arrest them. The suspects have been identified as Komal Kadam and Gaurav Shah.

According to the police, Mohammad Javed Khan (38), the manager of ICICI Bank’s Andheri East branch, reported that between April 2024 and December 2024, the accused used fake identification cards and misrepresented themselves as bank officials.

They exploited the bank’s name and resources for personal gain. The accused also orchestrated a fraudulent hiring process, conducting interviews with Mayank Barnwal and Sayali Jadhav and issuing fake joining letters.

Fake WhatsApp Group and Image Misuse : The fraudsters allegedly created a fake WhatsApp group to promote the fake recruitment drive, using pictures of well-known personalities to gain credibility and tarnish the bank’s reputation.

Police Investigation Underway: The MIDC police are actively pursuing the suspects and investigating the broader motive behind the fraud. Authorities are working to determine if more individuals were targeted or if a larger network is involved. The investigation remains ongoing, with police urging caution and vigilance in employment-related matters.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for impersonation, forgery, and fraud. Further arrests and revelations are anticipated as the investigation progresses.
