Mumbai: The sleeper version of the Vande Bharat train is superior to Rajdhani trains in terms of speed, comfort, and safety. On Wednesday, the sleeper version of the Vande Bharat train completed its trial run between Ahmedabad and Mumbai Central.

According to sources, the Mumbai-Delhi corridor is a top priority for the Railway Ministry, which plans to introduce the sleeper version of Vande Bharat trains on this route as soon as possible, once the rakes become available.

“This new train is not only faster than the existing Rajdhani Express but also more luxurious, marking a significant upgrade for passengers,” said an official after the completion of the trial run.

The Vande Bharat sleeper train can achieve maximum speeds of up to 160 kmph, thanks to faster acceleration and deceleration, significantly reducing travel times. Additionally, the use of optimized designs and different couplers ensures improved ride quality and a smoother, jerk-free experience compared to Rajdhani trains.

The train has dog boxes at both ends and ample linen storage for overnight journeys with 38 special berth for attendant.

According to WR, the train features a sleek design and cutting-edge interiors, with amenities designed to enhance passenger comfort on long-distance journeys. The 16-coach train includes 11 AC-3 tier coaches, 4 AC-2 tier coaches, and 1 First AC coach. Each coach boasts advanced features such as Type A and C charging ports, foldable snack tables, integrated lighting systems, and dedicated laptop charging points.

The train is also equipped with Braille navigation aids for visually impaired passengers, HL3 fire safety compliance, smooth gangway connectivity, and an additional berth for attendants, bringing the total to 38.

The berths of the new train is designed for better sleeping comfort, with attractive aesthetics. “Passengers will also find ladders that provide easier access to the upper and middle berths. Unlike the Rajdhani Express, the Vande Bharat sleeper is a self-propelled train with driver cabins at both ends, eliminating the need for a locomotive and reducing turnaround time at stations” said an official.

“The train features fully sealed gangways, which ensure a dust-free environment and efficient air-conditioning. The side walls, roof, end walls, floor sheets, and cab are made of austenitic steel, offering enhanced durability and safety” he added.

Passenger convenience is prioritized with automatic entry and exit doors controlled by the driver or train manager. The train also includes automatic interconnecting doors between coaches for seamless movement. The AC First Class coach is equipped with bio-vacuum toilet systems featuring touch-free fittings and even a shower cubicle for added luxury.

Apart from that Vande Bharat sleeper train also incorporates advanced safety measures, including crash buffers and deformation tubes, to ensure passenger protection. “The train’s fire safety standards are superior to those of existing Rajdhani trains” said an official.

The sleeper version of the Vande Bharat train is poised to become a game-changer in Indian Railways, setting new benchmarks for long-distance travel in the country. ” With its introduction, passengers can look forward to a transformative travel experience that combines modern technology with the highest standards of convenience and security” said an official.

First AC Coach: 24 berth 

Second AC Coaches: 48 berth each.

Third AC Coaches: Five with 67 berth each and four with 55 berth each and two (Driver/ Guard Coach) with 28 berth each.

The much-awaited Vande Bharat Sleeper train reached Mumbai Central at 1:50 PM on Wednesday during trail run. Train was started at 7.29 am from Ahmedabad, its took 6.21 minutes to reach Mumbai during trail run. Train was departed from Mumbai Central at 2.45 pm for down line trail.

“The trial run was conducted at a speed of 130 kmph, and further analysis will be carried out by the Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) before the final certification is issued” said an official.

Rail enthusiasts praised the train for its modern design and passenger-centric approach. “The interiors are on par with global standards, with spacious seating and thoughtful features like integrated lighting and foldable tables,” commented a enthusiasts.
