A new controversy has arisen over Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Pravesh Verma from New Delhi seat. Before the nomination, a video of Pravesh Verma has surfaced, in which he is seen tying and making women wear shoes with his own hands. Regarding this incident, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has targeted the Election Commission, accusing it of violating the code of conduct.

AAP’s attack on BJP and Election Commission

Aam Aadmi Party shared the video on X (formerly Twitter) and wrote:

“Under the nose of the Election Commission, BJP candidate in New Delhi Assembly Parvesh Verma is openly flouting the code of conduct. Money, shoes, blankets and sheets are being distributed to the voters. But the Election Commission and District Election Officer do not want to see all this. BJP is killing democracy and the Election Commission is watching the show.”

Kejriwal’s statement: ‘An insult to the people of Delhi’

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also reacted to this controversy of Pravesh Verma.

  • Kejriwal gave statement from Valmiki temple:

“Can the people of Delhi be bought by a pair of shoes? This is an insult to the people of Delhi. What should I say to a person who thinks that he can buy off the people of Delhi with a pair of shoes?”

  • He called it a mockery of democracy and targeted the BJP and said that it is an insult to the voters.

BJP’s reaction and Verma’s clarification

No direct reaction from Pravesh Verma on this controversy has been revealed yet. However, earlier on the matter of distributing ₹ 1100 to women, he had clarified that he had done this work through his father’s organization, which has always been helping the needy.

ban on job fair

Following AAP’s complaint, the Election Commission has banned the employment fair organized by BJP. Aam Aadmi Party had earlier also accused Pravesh Verma of distributing money, bedsheets and spectacles.

AAP has raised serious questions on the inaction of the Election Commission.

  • AAP alleges that BJP is openly violating the code of conduct and the Election Commission is ignoring it.
