“Our owner informed us about the district magistrate’s order that no one should be given fuel if he/she is not wearing a helmet. When the lineman came, we refused to refuel his bike. He left in a huff and disconnected the power supply.” a fuel station worker said as quoted by NDTV.
The petrol pump owner was surprised by the sudden power cut, However, the electricity of the petrol pump was reportedly restored after 20 minutes. Notably, as people approached the transfer to check whether everything was fine, they saw the lineman coming down the electricity pole. The petrol pump owner registered a police complaint.
Hapur District Magistrate Prerna Sharma issued an order to petrol pump owners in the district to refuse refuelling bikes of people who are not wearing helmets. The rule is part of the Yogi Adityanath government’s directives aiming at ensuring the safety of bikers. Under this rule, even pillions are required to wear helmets.
