Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Cops at Bag Sewania police station arrested a minor boy involved in multiple cases of theft in the area. The arrested boy used to carry out reconnaissance of colonies during the day and target houses that he found locked. Police also arrested a person who purchased stolen ornaments from the accused.

According to reports, doctor Shrikant Saral, resident of Priyadarshani Colony in Asaram Nagar approached police and lodged a complaint regarding theft at his house on January 10. The doctor said he found the lock of the main door broke when he returned from duty at a private hospital.

The house was found ransacked with Rs 40k cash and jewellery worth Rs 45k missing from the safe. Police team launched hunt for thieves and checked footages of over 40 CCTV cameras in the area. Police found footages of the thief and found that he was the same person who was wanted in another case of theft registered at the police station.

Police traced the location of the accused and arrested him on Tuesday following a tip-off. In-charge at Bag Sewania police station TI Amit Soni said the arrested accused is around 16-years-old and was questioned as per guidelines issued by the court.

After receiving inputs from the minor accused, police arrested one Shashikant Mehta of Bag Mugalia area who purchased stolen ornaments from him. Thirteen ornaments along with Rs 1300 cash was recovered from the arrested accused.

The arrested minor has two cases of theft registered against him earlier at Bag Sewania police station. He told police that he used to target homes that he found locked. The accused is an expert in breaking locks and almirahs, the TI added.
