After starring in hits like Rockstar and Main Tera Hero, Nargis Fakhri stepped away from Bollywood, and she has now revealed that there was a particular incident which made her do so. She also opened up on doing ‘item songs’ in her films, and how it was always looked down upon.

In an interview with Subhash K Jha, Nargis stated that it took her a while to adapt to Bollywood’s dancing culture, but she eventually did it and even enjoyed it. Shedding light on the negative connotation attached to item songs, the actress stated, “When people say a girl is doing an item song they mean it in a not-so-nice way. Bollywood dancing is as alien to me as Hindi. I am just enjoying learning it.”

She went on to say, “There is a lot of heaving and b**b-thrusting which I found difficult at first. But I was okay after a while. There are so many people indulging in so many activities on the sets. Come to think of it everything here in Mumbai is culturally very different from everywhere else.”

Nargis also stated that an “unfortunate situation” made her move away from Bollywood, however, she refrained from elaborating it further. “These factors of having to pander to the male ego is international so, no it did not cause me to recoil or leave Bollywood,” she explained.

She added that she met and worked with “some wonderful people” in Bollywood too during her brief stint.

Nargis was last seen in the 2023 web show, Tatlubaaz, which released on Zee5. She will reportedly be next seen in Housefull 5 with Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh and others.

Nargis marked her Bollywood debut opposite Ranbir Kapoor in Imtiaz Ali’s 2011 film, Rockstar, and it went on to achieve a cult status in the industry. She then featured in the song Dhating Naach with Shahid Kapoor in Phata Poster Nikla Hero, and also played one of the leads with Varun Dhawan in Main Tera Hero.

Besides, she also starred in films like Kick, Azhar, Housefull 3, Dishoom, 5 Weddings, Torbaaz and others.
