Stones Pelted At Tapti Ganga Express Carrying Devotees For Maha Kumbha 2025 (Screengrab) | X
Jalgaon: Stones were reportedly pelted at the Tapti Ganga Express train near Maharashtra’s Jalgaon station on Sunday. Notably, the train was heading to Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj carrying devotees for the Maha Kumbh 2025. Several videos of the alleged incident also surfaced online.
A windowpane of one of the coaches was reportedly damaged. No injuries were reported in the stone pelting incident. An FIR has been registered by the railway police in connection with the matter. The train was heading to Chhapara from Surat.
In videos surfaced on social media, passengers onboard the train reported stone pelting.
“Today (January 12) we have left for Prayagraj from Surat Udhna. At least 3 km ahead of Jalgaon, a stone was thrown by some anti-social elements. We request the Railway Minister to provide security to us… We were targetted with stones at night,” a passenge could heard saying in one of the videos doing rounds on social emdia. As per the passengers, the windowpane of B6 coach of the tarin was damaged.
“The stone was hurled at the train two to three kilometres after it had left the Jalgaon station, as per the passengers who were going to Prayagraj for the Kumbh Mela,” the police said as reported by CNN-News18. Over 40 per cent of passengers onboard the train were travelling to Prayagraj for the Maha Kumbh.
A detailed investigation has been launched into the matter. No arrests have been made so far.
Meanwhile: the Maha Kumbh Mela commenced at Sangam in Prayagraj on Monday. Notably Sangam is the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati rivers. More than 40 lakh people from different walks of life took g the first holy dip.
