Jasprit Bumrah, who got injured during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, may be out of the group stage of the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. Bumrah suffered a back injury in the last Test played in Sydney. However, according to reports, he has not suffered a fracture but there is definitely swelling. He has been asked to report to the National Cricket Academy (NCA), where his condition will be monitored.
It is expected that Bumrah will be completely fit by the first week of March. If this happens, they can make a comeback in the Champions Trophy knockout matches. The Champions Trophy will begin on 19 February, while the final will be played on 9 March.
According to the report of Indian Express, the selectors are considering whether to include Bumrah in the team of 15 players or keep him in the list of reserve players. The BCCI will first submit the provisional squad to the ICC, and they will have the right to make changes to the squad without anyone’s permission till February 12. During this time, BCCI can keep an eye on Bumrah’s condition.
A BCCI source said, “Bumrah is expected to be fully fit by the first week of March. He will go to NCA, where his recovery will be monitored. Initial reports say he does not have a fracture, but there is swelling on his back. They will be there for three weeks, but even after that they will have to play one or two matches, even if they are practice matches.”
Team India will start its campaign in the Champions Trophy against Bangladesh on 20th February, while their high voltage match against arch-rivals Pakistan will be on 23rd February. After this, India will play its last match of the group stage against New Zealand on March 2.
The semi-finals will take place on 4 and 5 March, and the final will be played on 9 March. However, the venue of the final has not been decided yet, while one semi-final will be played in Dubai and one in Pakistan.
