Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A dispute over the principal’s chair at the Government Autonomous Dental College has left the institution in chaos, with both, Dr Sandhya Jain and Dr Alka Gupta, simultaneously handling the role. Both are issuing orders, leaving staff and students unsure of whose directives to follow.
Dr Jain is operating from the principal’s official room, while Dr Gupta has set up her office in an adjoining room. Both have their nameplates displayed outside the principal’s office, with separate claims to the position.
Adding to the dispute, Dr Gupta changed the college email ID password, while Dr Jain continues to send official communications and sign documents. The tension escalated further on Saturday when Dr Jain inaugurated the college’s annual festival without inviting Dr Gupta. On the same day, Dr Gupta called a meeting of department heads, but none attended, citing confusion over leadership.

From where it started
The dispute began on January 8 when a government order temporarily assigned Dr Gupta as principal. However, Dr Jain, who was serving as principal, filed a petition in the High Court, which ruled that the current in-charge would remain until the next hearing.
Dr Jain claims she never handed over the charge, while Dr Gupta asserts she assumed the role as per the order. The issue remains unresolved as both have escalated complaints to senior officials. The situation has left college operations in confusion, with students and staff caught in the middle of the ongoing power struggle.
