A shocking case has come to light from Pathanamthitta district of Kerala, where a teenage girl was repeatedly sexually abused from the age of 16 to 18 years. Police have so far registered 4 FIRs in this regard and arrested 6 accused. The matter came to light when the victim revealed the incidents that happened to her during counseling in the school.
The victim disclosed during school counseling
Rajeev, president of Pathanamthitta Child Welfare Committee, said the matter came to light when the victim shared her experiences of sexual abuse during a school counseling session. After this, the Child Welfare Committee immediately informed the police about this and lodged a complaint. The victim is a sportsperson and was targeted by coaches, classmates and local residents during sports camps.
Eye on more than 60 suspects
According to the police report, more than 60 people are suspected to be involved in this case. The victim did not have her own mobile phone, but she had saved numbers of about 40 people who abused her in her father’s phone.
The victim was sent to a psychologist
The Child Welfare Committee also referred the victim to a psychologist so that her claims could be confirmed. The purpose of this step was to ensure that the allegations made by the girl were factual and to better understand her mental condition.
Case of prominent businessman Bobby Chemmanur also in discussion
Meanwhile, the Kerala High Court adjourned the hearing of prominent businessman Bobby Chemmanur’s bail plea in a separate sexual assault case till January 14. Chemmanur was arrested on allegations of sexual exploitation made by a Malayalam actress. Earlier, Ernakulam Judicial First Class Magistrate Court had rejected his bail plea, after which he was sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
Legal process continues for justice
Justice Kunhikrishnan said that no special concession can be given in Chemmanur’s case. Considering the seriousness of the matter, the court assured to consider all aspects.
