Before the Delhi Assembly elections, Congress has made a big claim on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its national convenor Arvind Kejriwal. Congress says that Arvind Kejriwal, who is the current MLA from New Delhi seat, is leaving his traditional seat this time and is looking for a new seat.
Congress’s allegation: Kejriwal is looking for a new seat
Delhi Congress President Devendra Yadav said, “It will not be a surprise if Arvind Kejriwal does not file nomination from New Delhi this time.”
Yadav says that Kejriwal has come under pressure after Congress candidate Sandeep Dixit entered the fray. He sarcastically said, “Kejriwal now cannot see anything beyond New Delhi. Sometimes he says that money is being distributed, sometimes he talks about registration of outsiders. But is it not his duty to be the voice of the whole of Delhi?”
Yadav said that the Aam Aadmi Party has become worried after the Congress announced the guarantee schemes and released the list of candidates. He alleged that Arvind Kejriwal is now looking for a new seat to avoid fighting from his traditional seat.
BJP accused of manipulation in voter list
Amid Congress’s allegations, Arvind Kejriwal raised the issue of manipulation in the voter list on behalf of his party in the New Delhi Assembly seat. On Thursday, Kejriwal complained to the Election Commission in this regard. He claimed that people associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were making large-scale irregularities in the voter list.
Kejriwal alleged:
- Applications to add names of 13,000 new voters:
He said that such a large number of applications for adding names have been given in the last 15 days. - Attempt to remove names of 5,500 voters:
According to him, applications for deletion of 5,500 names have been made in the last 22 days. - Allegation of fake application:
Kejriwal said that many of those whose names are being discussed for removal have themselves denied that they have given any application.
He described these incidents as a “serious scam”, saying such manipulation amounted to making a mockery of the election process.
Kejriwal’s contact with Election Commission
Arvind Kejriwal met Election Commission officials on this issue and demanded an investigation into the matter. He said that this is an attack on Delhi’s democracy and can affect the fairness of the elections. Speaking to reporters, Kejriwal said, “It is a matter of serious concern that such a large number of attempts are being made to change the voter list.”
High-profile contest on New Delhi seat
This time the contest between Arvind Kejriwal, who was elected MLA from New Delhi Assembly seat thrice, has become more interesting. Congress has made Sandeep Dikshit, son of former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, its candidate here, due to which the contest has become tough.
Kejriwal has won this seat in the elections of 2013, 2015 and 2020. This time, Sandeep Dixit and BJP candidate, who is the son of another prominent leader, are presenting a tough challenge to him.
War of words between Congress and AAP
The rhetoric between Congress and AAP has intensified.
- Congress claims that the AAP party is nervous due to their guarantee schemes and announcement of candidates.
- On the other hand, AAP has accused BJP of influencing the democratic process
