Chinese basketball player Zhang Xingliang has been suspended by his club Guangzhou Loong Lions after sneaking his girlfriend into the team dormitory in a suitcase to help her with homework. As per various reports, Zhang’s girlfriend made a post on social media a day before the game against the Qingdao Eagles on January 5.
Using the Weibo account @YuueCc, she posted a photo of herself lying in a suitcase along with homework sheets. Following the backlash, Zhang’s girlfriend deleted the post from her Weibo account.Zhang reportedly claimed that the stunt was to help his girlfriend with her studies, implying they were “studying” all night.
The club also released a statement stating”Recently, Zhang Xingliang, a player of the Guangzhou Loong Lions Basketball Club, has attracted the attention of fans and friends due to his inappropriate handling of personal matters.
“After consultation with the club’s management and coaching staff, it was decided that player Zhang Xingliang will be banned from participating in the club’s first team matches with immediate effect due to the objective fact that he has violated the relevant management rules of the club’s first team.” Zhang is said to have apologised profusely for his breaking of the club’s strict rules.
