For the past few years, Robotics have gained a huge audience and applications across sectors. From big tech companies to small startups, all are starting to bring some form of robotics. The recent highlight could be the launch of range of new robots at the CES 2025 conference. Among them the star of the show is Mirumi. This furry little robot is designed to clip onto your bag, bringing a new fashion statement!
Decoding Mirumi: Your cute portable robot
During the CES 2025, Yukai Engineering, a quirky robotics company, introduced its latest invention Mirumi. The robot’s origins trace back to an internal “Make-a-Thon” event at Yukai. The team took inspiration from Yokai, a mischievous spirits in Japanese folklore. This furry little robot is designed to clip onto your bag/clothes. Brownie point: It can interact with the world around it.
But what’s the hype about this robot? The collaboration of fashion and robots seems to have opened a new path for new-age tech. Mirumi is not just a robot but is also a wearable accessory. It has a cute design with soft fur and vibrant colors. This can make it a unique statement piece when clipped to bags or outfits or arms. Today in this Gen Z and social media driven era, fashion have been increasingly embracing tech-infused trends. Mirumi-like robots can serve as eye-catching, futuristic add-ons to elevate your style or bold statements.
Equipped with motion and proximity sensors, also Mirumi detects activity around it and reacts in various ways depending on the situation. The robot can respond to rejection, curiosity and comfort, among others. Moreover, the fusing of design and technology is creating opportunities for new ideas, uses, and self-expression.
Fashion meets Robots: The way ahead
For the fashion industry, this fusion can open doors to personalized experiences. This includes real-time outfit recommendations, mood-based styling and even self-adapting garments. It can also address growing consumer demand for uniqueness and sustainability by enabling smarter design processes and reducing waste through AI-driven insights. Looking ahead, “as robotics and AI continue to evolve, we can expect a future where wearable tech and robotic accessories become mainstream, seamlessly merging practicality with aesthetics,” designer Bhawna Rao.
Also, designers and brands can integrate similar technology into their collections bringing a redefined era of accessories. “Fashion and technology are converging like never before, robots and AI have become true game-changers for the fashion aesthetic. The introduction of Mirumi is an example of how robots are blending tech and fashion to create something truly unique,” Neeraj Singh Jain, Design Director at Fashinza, said.

The combination of robots with fashion can lure both fashionistas and technology enthusiasts to want more. This not only open up new ways for branding but also helps in marketing products to a larger audience. “If traditional fashion centers on the aesthetics, then robotic accessories are overlays of interactivity, thus making them totally different. This advancement has provoked thoughts on how robotic accessories would influence the future of fashion,” Pooja Choudhary, Founder, Lavanya The Label, explained.
However, the usage of technology on fashion on a larger scale can impact small-scale boutiques/fashion communities. In line with this, “The merging of art and technology can also bring complications for companies which prides itself on the celebration of cultural infusion, handcraft, and artisanal skill. Robots can run the risk of undermining the year-long and intricate nature of hand technology work,” Marisha Ganatra, Co-Founder -MAAP by Marisha and Prachi, concluded.
