A high-level meeting took place between IG, South Bengal Frontier, BSF, and Regional Commander, South West Region, BGB at Petrapole-Benapole amid fresh new tension over fencing at Malda on Thursday.
According to BSF sources, the meeting took place at ICP Petrapole on the India-Bangladesh border in North 24 Parganas between IG, South Bengal Frontier, BSF, Maninder PS Pawar, IPS, and the Regional Commander of the South West Region, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Brigadier General Mohammad Humayun Kabir, PSC.
The IG, South Bengal Frontier, emphasized the importance of mutual cooperation between the two countries in promoting a more secure border environment.
“Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and continuing efforts to enhance the spirit of cooperation between India and Bangladesh. During the meeting, discussions focused on coordination and peace along the border, as well as fostering mutual cooperation between the two border security forces,” said the statement issued by BSF.
On the other hand, a minor issue triggered at Sukhdevpur in Malda once again on Thursday while fencing work was being carried on.
“Flag meetings were held even on Wednesday night. There are some sporadic issues but fencing work is going on,” said an administrative source to FPJ.
However, the villagers were heard complaining that BGB is threatening them not to continue with the fencing work.
A villager Janardan Mondal said, “Infiltration is common in this area now the BGB is even threatening us.”
Meanwhile, two Bangladeshi nationals were arrested in Bengal.
