Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced an important cashless medical scheme for road accident victims, which will provide them with treatment worth more than Rs 1 lakh. This scheme will be implemented by March 2024. Gadkari said that this scheme will be applicable to all types of road accidents, irrespective of the category of road.
Under the scheme, victims will be entitled for ‘cashless’ treatment of up to Rs 1.5 lakh per person within a maximum of seven days from the date of the accident, Gadkari said at a press conference. This pilot program was started on March 14, 2024, with the aim of providing timely medical care to the victims of road accidents. It was first launched in Chandigarh and later expanded to six states.
How to get treatment:
Under this scheme, victims will be provided a health benefit package of up to Rs 1.5 lakh for trauma and polytrauma care for a maximum period of 7 days from the date of accident in hospitals empaneled under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri-Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY). Will be given.
Gadkari said that if the police is informed within 24 hours of the accident, the government will bear the expenses of the treatment. He also said that in 2024, about 1.80 lakh people lost their lives in road accidents, out of which 30 thousand deaths occurred due to not wearing helmets.
If someone dies in a hit-and-run situation, a compensation of Rs 2 lakh will be given to the victim’s family. The program will be implemented through the e-Detailed Accident Report (eDAR) application of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and the Transaction Management System of NHA.
