Varun Chakravarthy has performed brilliantly for Tamil Nadu in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, taking five wickets in the pre-quarterfinal against Rajasthan. In this match played at Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara, Varun’s bowling played an important role in restricting Rajasthan to a score of 267.

Varun broke the 160-run partnership between Abhijeet Tomar and Mahipal, dismissed both the batsmen and also showed the way to the pavilion to Deepak Hooda. At one time, Rajasthan team had lost only one wicket till the score of 184, but Varun’s sharp bowling made three more wickets fall within the next 25 runs. He clean bowled Mahipal Lomror using a googly.

The Champions Trophy will start from February 19, in which India will play its matches in Dubai. The teams for this tournament are expected to be announced before January 12. Varun is among the leading wicket-takers in this competition, with 18 wickets in six matches, including two five-wicket hauls. Left arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh has also secured second position with 17 wickets in six matches. Earlier, Varun had also taken five wickets against Mizoram.
