The much awaited undergraduate film festival – Frames organised by the BAMMC Department of SIES, Nerul kick-started with a bang on Wednesday. This year marks the 22nd edition of country largest undergraduate festival. The festival is to be held over a period of three days and will culminate on January 10.
The festival this year has received total of 3052 entries across all the categories that included National Short Films, International Short Films, Ad Films, Music videos, Animation Films, Documentaries and National Indie Films. On first day, total of 14 movies were screened this included 7 national short films and 7 international short films. This year the festival has unveiled the theme- Nayaab – Echoes of Silent Masterpieces, emphasizing the discovery of unique and rare cinematic gem. They screened National and International Short films on the first day.
National short films were judged by cinematographer and Director of Photography, Sebastian AKN, Girish Thapar, an Indian Actor and theatre artist. Meanwhile, International short films were judged by actor and host Abhay Kulkarni, actor Ujjwal Chopra and Production designer Dino Shankar.The national short films that were screened were Insanity, Kashmakash, Mr Sawant’s residence, The last supper, free as a bird, the choice and goolar ke phool.
Meanwhile the International Short films that were screened were Nietzschean Suicide, Where the clownfish meets the clown, Nicargua and Uriarte, Pisho, The Shot Within, Like Deliberately and The Fuse.Kashmakash by Krishav Payyade was about a major dispute between an aspiring film maker against his father’s idea of success. The movie is about who wins the tussle. Another short film, Mr Swant’s residence is a gripping short film that explores the unforeseen consequences of a seemingly disturbed perchance event leading to a chilling chain of events that shatters lives.
Meanwhile Pisho, an international short film by Aun Ul Haider is about journey of a seven year old girl Ruqayya who is on a mission to find her lost kitten, Like Deliberately by Farzin Azizi is about Shahkarmi who has died suspiciously and the police are trying to find the story. Dino Shankar, production designer who is also an alumni of the college found the experience of being a jury for the event once he was a part of, to be a nostalgic one. “The movie making techniques have changed, so have the quality of enteries in past so many years. Each film maker is unique in his or her work and have done a wonderful job. It was indeed a difficult job to judge them,” he said.
