After a brief return of a coldwave, Mumbai saw a rise in temperatures on Wednesday. The Santacruz observatory recorded minimum and maximum temperature of 19 and 33 degrees Celsius respectively on Wednesday. While, Colaba observatory recorded minimum and maximum temperature of 21.6 and 30.6 degrees Celsius. On Tuesday, the mercury in the island city has dropped to 15.2 degrees Celsius, marking as one of the coolest January morning.

As per Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Mumbai, the disturbed and strong westerly winds are resulting into sudden weather change in the city. The mercury is expected rise further in the coming days. As per IMD’s forecast, on January 10, the minimum temperature in Mumbai is likely to climb to 23 degrees Celsius and maximum temperature will continue to hover around 32 to 33 degrees Celsius. For the next 48 hours, the skies in Mumbai will be hazy in the morning becoming partly cloudy towards afternoon.

Mumbaikars started their week with chills as the unexpected drizzles on Sunday night had added coolness in the breeze. Apart from Mumbai and MMR, other parts of Maharashtra too had witnesses light spells. As per IMD Regional Weather forecast, on January 10, light rain spells are very likely to occur in isolated parts of North Konkan and North Central Maharashtra. While, South Konkan and Marathwada will witness partly cloudy weather.

With the increased breeze and decreased moisture, the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) in Mumbai continued to remain in ‘Moderate’ category on Wednesday, except Shivaji Nagar (Deonar) area which recorded the poorest AQI in the city at 255. Some of the areas with comparatively poor AQI on Wednesday as per Central Pollution Control Board recordings were : Malad West 182, Sewri 162, Byculla 150, Mazagon 168, Colaba 156, BKC 130 and Sion 139.
