Navi Mumbai: Uneven road on Sion-Panvel Highway towards CBD Belapur has cost lives of two college going boys on Tuesday morning. The bike in which the boys were travelling to college fell on road after the bike skid due to the uneven edge of the road. The boys were then ran over by a bus.

The victims, identified as Shashipritam Raju Dontha (19) and Sahil Vilas Kerkar (19), were both students at Apeejay Institute of Hospitality in Belapur, where they were pursuing a hotel management course.

According to the police, the accident occurred around 8:30 AM as Dontha and Kerkar on a two wheeler from Mulund to their college in CBD Belapur. After crossing Uran Phata bridge, the uneven road caused their scooter to slip following which both of them fell near the left rear wheel of an oncoming bus. They were then run over by the rear tyre of the bus, resulting in fatal injuries.

The two victims, Dontha from Diva East and Kerkar from Mulund West, were declared dead on arrival at the hospital. The bus driver involved in the incident has been served with a notice by CBD police, who have filed a case of negligence and rash driving.

“Our investigations revealed that the uneven road surface played a significant role in the accident. The bike would not have skid if the road was even,” a police officer from CBD Belapur police station said.
