Rajasthan CM Bhajanlal Sharma and Haryana CM Nayab Saini during a meeting in Delhi, finalizing the Yamuna Water Sharing Agreement for the Shekhawati region | X
Jaipur: Under the Yamuna Water Agreement between Haryana and Rajasthan, the state of Rajasthan will get excess water that comes during the rainy season.
This was decided in a meeting between Rajasthan CM Bhajanlal Sharma and Haryana CM Nayab Saini in the presence of Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil in Delhi on Tuesday.
After the meeting, CM Nayab Saini said that both the states will form a joint task force to implement the agreement. “The water that flows away during the rains. It is good that the people of Rajasthan would get it,” said Haryana CM Saini after the meeting.
While Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma said that the Yamuna Water Agreement is good for both the states. Shekhawati region of Rajasthan has been waiting for Yamuna water for a long time. Now that wait is about to end and soon the Joint Task Force of officials will start working on Detailed Project Report.
Notably, Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma had signed the Yamuna Water Agreement with the then Chief Minister of Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar on February 17, 2024 in the presence of the then Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.
According to the agreement, Churu, Sikar, and Jhunjhunu districts of Rajasthan will get 577 million cubic meters of water from the Yamuna river. The issue was long pending and was a major political issue in this region of Rajasthan.
