Kolhapur: Uncle Poisons Food At Niece’s Wedding Reception After She Marries Against Family’s Wishes |
While a news of a killing of cousin as she was in relationship with a boy against her family’s wish is not old, a man in Kolhapur attempted to poison the food at his niece’s wedding reception after she eloped and married against the wishes of her family.
The accused has been identified as Mahesh Jyotiram Patil and the incident took place on Tuesday in the jurisdiction of Panhala Police Statiion in Utre village.
Patil was angry over his niece’s decision to marry a boy from the village and acted out of anger.
He mixed poisonous substances into the food which was to be served at the reception, hoping to harm the guests on Tuesday in Utre village in Kolhapur’s Panhala. However, a major disaster was averted when a waiter who saw him do that alerted the family.

When the chef/waiter saw him do that, he confronted him. Later, the food was discarded before anyone had a chance to eat it.
Following the incident, a case was filed against Mahesh Patil at the Panhala police station. The accused, however, has gone into hiding, and the police are actively searching for him.
In Marathwada, recently, upset over friendship with a boy from the same locality, a man killed his 17-year-old cousin sister by pushing her into a gorge on Monday afternoon. The incident of honour killing has shaken the city. The police have arrested the suspected cousin. The deceased has been identified as Namrata Ganeshrao Sherkar (17) and her accused cousin Rishikesh alias Vaibhav Tanaji Sherkar (25, Wadadgaon).
