Kangana Ranaut’s much awaited film ‘Emergency’ is going to be released in theaters on January 17. Kangana and her team are putting in all their strength in the promotion of this film based on the background of Indira Gandhi’s life and the Emergency in India. In a recent interview, Kangana revealed the challenges faced during the making and release of the film.

What did Kangana say?

In an interview given to ANI, Kangana said,
“There was a lot of struggle. Till date no one has been able to make a film directly on Indira Gandhi. It is a different thing to make a film by saying inspired or changing the name, but no one dared to make a film based on his life.”

Referring to the 1977 film ‘Kissa Kursi Ka’, he said,
“The director of that film had to commit suicide. This kind of environment was created for them.”

However, according to Wikipedia, ‘Qissa Kursi Ka’ director Amrit died during an operation at Escorts Hospital.

‘Trust the censor board’

Kangana also told that while making ‘Emergency’, she had to show the film to many communities and give evidence on every aspect.
“We were able to make this film today because there is freedom of speech now. We have full faith in our country, constitution and censor board. We have followed every rule and are now excited to present it to the audience.”

‘The biggest question was: will the film be released?’

Kangana also spoke openly about the financial and other challenges faced during the production of the film. He said:
“Usually my films are made on a low budget, but this time I had to struggle with everything from studio to funds. The biggest fear was that no one was sure about the release of the film. This question was on our minds all the time: Will this film ever be released?”

Story of struggle for ‘Emergency’

  • Sensitivity of the subject: Making a film on the life of Indira Gandhi and the Emergency has always been a subject of controversies and criticism.
  • Struggle with funding and studio: Kangana said that lack of budget and lack of support from the studio was a big challenge.
  • Possibility of opposition: During the making of the film, it had to be shown to many communities and organizations so that no controversy would arise.

Kangana’s expectations

Kangana Ranaut finally said,
“We have made this film with complete honesty and hard work. I hope the audience will like it and understand the struggle associated with it.”
