Australia’s batsmen, Usman Khawaja and Travis Head expressed their delight at Jasprit Bumrah not bowling on the third day of his final Test match on the bowler-friendly pitch of the Sydney Cricket Ground. Bumrah could not bowl in Australia’s second innings due to lower back pain, due to which his team easily achieved the target of 162 runs and won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the first time in the last decade.
Khawaja said, “Bumrah was dominating me. It was not easy to face him, and I had to face him with a new ball every time. You never want a player to get injured, but for us it was thank God. Facing him on this wicket would have been a nightmare. As soon as we saw that he was not coming on the field, we thought this was our opportunity.”
Praising the quality of Bumrah’s bowling, he said, “Of all the bowlers I have faced, Bumrah has been the toughest to face. He has become more mature than last time and has full knowledge of his skills.”
Khawaja, who has scored more than 5500 runs in Test cricket, said that Bumrah did not give him any chance to score runs. At the same time, Head also expressed happiness over Bumrah’s absence and said, “The 15 players in our dressing room were very happy. He is an excellent bowler and has performed exceptionally well in this tour.”
