Mumbai: An all-party delegation on Monday met Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan regarding the Beed sarpanch murder case, demanding the resignation of NCP Minister Dhananjay Munde from the cabinet and death penalty for the accused.
The delegation highlighted that incidents of extortion, kidnapping and other crimes have been on the rise in Beed and the Deshmukh case is a reflection of the deteriorating law and order situation in the district.
Further, the delegation in its representation to the Governor, also demanded that the accountability of law enforcement officials should be ensured and, therefore, action should be taken against police personnel who neglected their duties. The delegation urged the Governor to take initiatives to restore public confidence and safety of residents in the Beed district and ultimately to curb extortion and hooliganism.
The delegation comprised Leader of Opposition in the state council Ambadas Danve, former MP Chhatrapati Sambhajiraje, Beed MP (NCP-SP) Bajrang Sonawane, Beed legislator Sandeep Kshirsagar (NCP-SP), Ashti legislator (BJP) Suresh Dhas, NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad and Congress MLA Vijay Wadettiwar among others.
Speaking after the meeting, Awhad said, “Minister Dhananjay Munde should resign. Valmik Karad should be charged under Section 302 (murder). We will not glorify criminal activities. We are demanding Dhananjay Munde’s resignation through constitutional means. Crimes have occurred in Beed in the past as well, and those cases should also be investigated.”
“The government is trying to protect Munde and Karad. The SIT investigation officers are close to the accused. Since the government is not listening, we met the Governor,” said Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Ambadas Danve.
