A 26-year-old man, identified as Akshay Paygude, lost his life in a road accident in Goregaon West on Monday morning. Paygude, who was riding a two-wheeler, fell under the rear wheel of a speeding BMC (Bombay Municipal Corporation) garbage truck and died on the spot. The Goregaon police have registered an accidental death report.
According to the police, Akshay Paygude was a delivery boy residing in Best Colony, Goregaon West. Around 6.45 AM on Monday, Paygude and his friend, Ajay Hatekar, 28, who is also a delivery boy, were travelling on a two-wheeler. Paygude was driving the bike, and they were heading from MG Road toward Best Colony.
Near a T-junction close to Tent Hotel, a BMC garbage truck approached at high speed from Siddharth Circle toward SV Road. Scared by the truck’s speed, Paygude suddenly applied the brakes, causing the bike to skid. Both riders fell, and Paygude was crushed under the rear wheel of the garbage truck. Hatekar sustained minor injuries. Passersby rushed them to Trauma Hospital, but Paygude was declared dead on arrival.
A police officer explained, “The two-wheeler collided with the right side of the garbage vehicle at a slope, leading to the accident. Due to the smaller size of the bike and the sudden fall, the riders had no chance to recover. Neither the garbage truck driver nor the two-wheeler rider was under the influence of alcohol.”
The garbage truck driver, identified as Mithin Jamadar, 35, was present at the scene. The Goregaon police are investigating the incident to determine the exact sequence of events.
