A minor female hockey player was raped ahead of the 38th National Games which is set to be held in Uttarakhand. According to a TV9 report, the victim has accused her coach of raping her. On receiving the complaint, the police arrested coach Bhanu Agarwal, who lives in Champawat district. The coaching certificate of the accused is also being canceled.

Haridwar’s District Sports Officer Shabali Gurunghas called this incident a very serious matter. Haridwar’s Senior Superintendent of Police Pramod Singh Dobhal said that a case has been registered in Sidkul police station after complaint was filed by victim’s father.

The victim (female hockey player) was sent for medical examination and following the complaint, the police arrested the accused and sent him to jail. The police after getting the victim medically examined, submitted the investigation report to CO City.

About the 38th National Games in Haridwar

Uttarakhand will host the National Games 2025 from January 28 to February 14, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) announced on Monday. Gujarat hosted the 2022 edition, which saw the revival of the National Games for the first time since 2015.

The National Games of India will feature 32 sporting disciplines and four demonstration events. The 2025 National Games will feature over 10,000 athletes, officials and coaches from different states and institutional teams like the Services will compete in medal events in 38 sports.

The games will also witness inclusion of demonstration sports like kalarippayattu, yogasana, mallakhambh and rafting which will reflects commitment to honouring India’s rich heritage while encouraging new opportunities for athletes
