Heavy snowfall has resulted in deteriorating road conditions in several states | X (@senguptacanada)

First major winter storm of the year 2025 hit central United States hard on Saturday (local time) as mix of snow, ice deteriorated road conditions. There are forecasts that the winter storm will be moving east in the coming days.

Region between Kansas and Indiana were expected to receive widespread heavy snow especially along and north of interstate highway number 70. BY afternoon on Saturday, part of the the highway was closed in central Kansas. There were predictions that parts of Kansas and northern Missouri would witness snowfall as high as 14 inches (35.6 cm).

After hitting this region, the winter storm is expected to move into Ohio Valley likely causing several travel disruptions. The storm would reach the Mid-Atlantic states on Sunday and Monday. Hard freeze is expected as far as coastal state of Florida.

The National Weather Service has warned that as storm system’s cold front crosses the Lower Mississippi Valley, severe thunderstorms, tornadoes and hail is possible.

The adverse weather has also hit New York state and parts of it witnessed 3 feet or more of snowfall.

Bad road conditions are affecting traffic. In Kansas, several tractor-trailers, a fire truck and several passenger vehicles overturned in Salina, Kansas.

Multiple crashes were reported in Wichita, Kansas on Saturday morning. The police have advised people to stay home as much as possible.
