Mumbai: A 55-year-old K-West ward official has been arrested by the Mumbai Unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly demanding a bribe from a person on the pretext of providing him a BMC job. The accused public servant had demanded a bribe of Rs 3 lakh.

The accused public servant has been identified as Satish Jadhav, who is posted with K-West ward of BMC at Andheri as a Mukadam.

According to the ACB, since the complainant was working as a security guard and required a permanent job, his acquaintance introduced the complainant to Jadhav. When the complainant met Jadhav on December 12, regarding the job, the accused public servant told the complainant that he can get him a job as a safai kamgar with the BMC’s waste collection vehicle and that his job would get permanent after six months in the BMC.

In order to get the job done, Jadhav allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 3 lakh from the complainant to prepare the necessary paperwork for the job. But since the complainant did not want to pay a bribe to Jadhav, he approached the ACB Mumbai office on December 30 and lodged a complaint.

A verification done by the ACB on the allegations of the complainant revealed that Jadhav had asked the complainant to come on Thursday with the application and required documents. The verification process also established that Jadhav had agreed to accept Rs 20000 as the first installment of the bribe amount.

Accordingly, a trap was laid by the ACB team and Jadhav was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 20,000 from the complainant . A case has been registered against Jadhav under the relevant section of the Prevention of Corruption Act and was subsequently placed under arrest. He was produced before the concerned court which remanded him to ACB custody till January 09.
