Beau Webster made his Test debut against India at the SCG, replacing Mitchell Marsh. Ahead of his debut, an amusing incident involving his parents garnered attention online.
Beau’s parents, Tina and Rod Webster needed to travel to Sydney to witness their son’s debut match. However, this left their two dogs alone, including a Labrador, in need of care.
In a bid to find a solution, a friend of the Webster’s parents posted an urgent plea on a local Facebook page named ‘West Hobart Good Karma Network’ in Mount Nelson, asking for a house sitter to look after the family pets. The post quickly went viral, adding a humorous twist to the special occasion. Here is the post:
“Unlikely but is anyone available for some house sitting starting tonight, for 4-5 nights?”. “Until at least Tuesday next week, possible a few more days after that. Would be looking after 2 dogs based in Mount Nelson. A friend’s son has been selected for the Australian cricket side!! So she’s off to Sydney at very short notice.”

After Day 1 of the Test, Beau reacted humorously to the situation in an interview with ABC Sport. He joked, “Mum and Dad left pretty quickly, and they needed a sitter for Franklin and their other Labrador. I saw the post, and it went viral. Honestly, they could’ve just flown the dog up here!
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy’s fifth and final Test at the SCG saw Jasprit Bumrah leading India in place of the injured Rohit Sharma. Winning the toss, Bumrah opted to bat, but India’s batting woes continued as they were bowled out for 185. Rishabh Pant’s calm 40 and Bumrah’s spirited 22 were the highlights of a disappointing innings.
Australia started cautiously but lost Usman Khawaja early, leaving them at 9/1 after three overs. A dramatic stare-off between Bumrah and Australian batter Konstas added to the intensity of the day, setting the stage for a gripping second day.
