Donald J Trump is just days away, precisely just about a fortnight and a half away from assuming the Oval Office in the White House. Trump has even shared posts marking and therefore counting down on the same on his platform, Truth Social.

The Visa Conundrum

Amidst the build-up, one of the biggest issues that attained a lot of traction, and in all frankness, exhibited a divide in the MAGA Camp that has been united house, has been the issues of the crucial H1-B visas. H1-B visas are special visas issued for foreign workers with particular skills in ‘speciality occupation’.

Trump Vs Musk?

In the past few weeks, the issues have led to some debate. One hand of the MAGA spectrum, likes of Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, close allies of Trump espoused the extension of H1-B visas.

Both of these allies are co-heads of the Department of Government Efficiency or DOGE, who have benefited from the schemes and highly skilled foreign workers who have worked for their advanced tech companies.

Ramaswamy has a biotech company, meanwhile, Musk heads two major tech companies, namely Tesla and SpaceX, to name a few.

This was followed by backlash by hardcore from hardcore MAGA supporters.

‘I Have Not Changed My Mind’

Now, a comment that Trump made has surfaced,a adding to the questioning whether he has changed his mind on the contentious visas.

While speaking on the sidelines of an event, to some media personnel, Trump, when asked whether he had changed his mind on the visas, he retorted and said that he has not changed his mind.

In his remark, Trump further added, “I’ve always felt we have to have the most competent people in our country.”

In some ways, contrary to some of his campaigns promises, Trump further added, ” We need smart people in our country. We need a lot of people coming in.”

Crucial H1-B Visas

In addition, Trump also underscored his commitment of creating more jobs, and said that there will be a lot of jobs.

Immigration is crucial issue in the United States and one that has concerned many in the country. This issue, according to many also won him the presidency in 2024.

His decision on these crucial visas in the time to come will be rudimentary for many, including Indians aspiring to fly to the states with the dream and aim to work for the biggest names in Silicon Valley.
