Shital Chawan (29), the wife of a security guard who was injured with her husband during an altercation over open urination at a plot near the Jai Malhar Hotel on Pune-Solapur Road, died while undergoing treatment at a hospital. The body of the deceased was sent to the Sassoon General Hospital for postmortem.

Shital and her husband, Akshay Chavan, were injured on Dec 27, at around 7.30pm, when three men, Satish Lokhande (31), Ajay Dashrath Mundhe (26), and Bhanudas Dattatrey Shelar (32), all residents of Chimbaki Phata, Khed Taluka, stopped their car to urinate at the plot Chavan guarded and lived on. When Kumar opposed the men urinating in front of his wife, an altercation started, during which the trio thrashed the couple.

Mundhe is also accused of firing in the air using a country-made pistol. The couple was also assaulted with stones.

While the police have arrested the trio and recovered the country-made pistol following the death of Chavan, murder charges have also been added to the case against the accused. The accused have been sent to police custody for four days.

Public Urination Fine:

Recent data on urination at public places shared by Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) shows 5,426 people have been fined, resulting in the collection of Rs 10.96 lakh as penalties from the middle of January to Dec 14, 2024.

The statistics highlight the persistent issue of public urination, which not only tarnishes the city’s image but also raises concerns about hygiene and public health and leads to several altercations between people as well.
