Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): A woman died and six others were injured when a speeding car, reportedly driven under the influence of alcohol, ploughed through the busy market on Thursday in MP’s Jabalpur. The car was bearing a ‘Government of India’ sticker on the hood.

After the car rammed into the people, the driver tried to run. Onlookers rounded up the car and held on to the driver. They then handed the driver over to the police and sent the injured to the local hospital for treatment. The accused is in custody, and investigations into the matter have begun.

According to information, the deceased, identified as Durga Bai Rajak, was struck while purchasing vegetables. She died on the spot. Eyewitnesses reported that the driver of a high-speed Ertiga car, bearing a “Government of India” sticker, was heavily intoxicated. The car collided with multiple two-wheelers before hitting the elderly woman.

The accused then attempted to leave the car and flee, but his attempt was thwarted by locals, who apprehended him and handed him over to the police. The driver, a resident of the Ghana area in Khamaria, was taken into custody. The vehicle has been seized, and a case has been registered under charges of negligence and culpable homicide.
