Kazakhstan reached the semi-finals of the United Cup after beating Germany 2-0 in the quarter-finals on Wednesday. 24-year-old Alexander Shevchenko defeated Daniil Masur 6-7(5), 6-2, 6-2. With this victory, Kazakhstan got a 2-0 lead.

Earlier, Elena Rebekina defeated Laura Sigismund 6-3, 6-1. For Germany, world number two Alexander Zverev was ruled out with injury and was replaced by Masur. But lentils could not make any difference.

“I worked hard for my team and I’m proud of it,” Shevchenko said after the win. I was a little nervous. This victory was special for me. Kazakhstan will now go to Sydney to play the semi-finals. Kazakhstan, who will play in the United Cup for the first time in 2023, was eliminated without a win. But this time they have a chance to reach the finals. On the other hand, Hubert Hurkacz and Iga Swiatek helped Poland top Group B. They defeated Tomas Machak and Karolina Muchova of Czech Republic 7-6(3), 6-3 to make the score 2-1. Hurkacz and Swiatek won in one hour and 25 minutes. Poland broke the opponent’s serve five times. “I was confident they would play very well because their doubles and mixed doubles teams have always been good,” Swiatek said. But I knew we could win. We were ahead from the beginning.
